There are 25 commodities in the Caribbean world, which can be divided into three groups according to their production potential:
- Cultivation - These require fields and farms
- Mining - There are obtained by mining available resources
- Handicraft - There are produced with the help of goods above in handicraft business
Trade
Handicraft commodities can be produced in all towns, but cultivation and mining commodities are subject to geographical conditions. Furthermore, only a limited number of commodities can be produced in each town. However, since all inhabitants would like to consume almost all commodities and many businesses also need raw materials, a brisk trade in commodities between towns is an important prerequisite for growth and prosperity.
Buying & Selling
To trade a commodity in the trade dialog, you simply select the commodity. Then a transfer dialog will open Important in this dialog is that the unit price per commodity is permanently adjusted to the amount you want to trade. Make sure, for example, that you do not sell so much of a commodity that the unit price falls below the purchase price you paid for the commodity.
Importance of the Commodities
In the trade dialogue, the commodities are sorted according to their importance for the inhabitants. The most important commodities are at the top. The different importance of the commodities decreases with the size of the town. In towns with 5000 inhabitants or more, all commodities are equally important.
Commodity Prices
At the market of a town, commodities are traded at prices that depend on supply and demand. If the stock of a commodity lasts for many weeks or if a commodity is even produced daily in the town, the commodity is cheap. However, if the stock of a commodity is running low, it is correspondingly expensive.
How well the stock of a product is estimated, you can see at the column Fill level. The symbols have the following meaning:
Another new feature of Port Royale 4 is that the previous Commodity availability has an impact on prices. If a commodity was always available in the last weeks, the town is more relaxed and the price is lower.
